The highly anticipated superhero movie featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine, is generating major excitement at the box office. Despite initial positive expectations, early predictions now suggest the film is poised for a colossal opening. But can this Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film surpass Oppenheimer and set new records for IMAX collections? Let's dive into a detailed analysis.

Box office enthusiasts might be astonished to learn that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer raked in an impressive $6.3 million from IMAX screenings in India alone. Led by Cillian Murphy, the film exceeded expectations, achieving substantial success.

In comparison, the second highest-grossing film on IMAX screens in India is James Cameron’s Avatar 2, which brought in $1.82 million, significantly lower by about 71% than Oppenheimer's figures.

Indian films have not come close to matching the IMAX success of Oppenheimer or Avatar 2. The nearest competitors are Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan with $1.67 million and Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 with $1.70 million.

Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD had a successful run at both the Indian and global box office, although exact figures remain unknown. Nevertheless, it falls short compared to the aforementioned Indian films.

Hollywood movies often deliver a unique cinematic experience, prompting audiences to opt for IMAX screenings. With the current momentum of Deadpool & Wolverine, it will be fascinating to see if it can dethrone Oppenheimer from its top spot.

Deadpool & Wolverine is projected to open with over 20 crore in the Indian box office across all languages. These exceptional numbers have eluded even major Bollywood releases recently. The 24th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already grossed around 11 crores in pre-booking sales, excluding blocked seats.

Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
